Most of photographs from Wood Notes series have been done in archeological camp where I spend time every summer. It`s situated on the island of a big lake in Belarus. Archeologists and enthusiasts work at the place there used to be an ancient settlement. The history of several milleniums mixed on this tiny island. At one period of time Baltic and Slavic tribes lived here, lots of artifacts related to the pagan era were found belowground. One of the old routes from Scandinavia to Byzantine empire ran through the lake too.

The island is uninhabited now. There is no electricity here. Water for the camp is taken from the lake, tents provide lodging. The main sources of light, when it is dark, are bonfires. For two weeks residents forget about the time and area environment and dip into the history. For me this place has become a small prototype of my homeland. Myths revive here, past mixes with present. The life of people reminds of age-old pagan relationship between a man and the nature, which once integrated into our world and still remains in our genes. So I just need to switch on my intuition and try to create a visual story.

Most of my photographs from this series are metaphors telling about communication between man and natural environment, about the age-old pagan relationship once was deeply integrated into man's world and still remaining in our genes.

Some of my works are poetic portraits of people who aspire to natural surroundings more than urban area. Together with them I am doing small discoveries, getting into conversation with the sun, trees or sometimes staying in indomitable, untamed landscape hand to hand with nature and quite at one with her.

My photographs are intuitive. I try to find symbols in real life and create my own myth about reality.

Process statement. My works a made with a Hasselblad 6X6 camera. The negatives are developed and printed by myself in the traditional wet darkroom.
